'Fugue in Void': Both a Dream and a Real Experience!
Fugue in Void has been released on the 3rd of August 2018 on Steam by Sedoc LLC and creator Moshe Linke, and so we gave it a go!
This short, indie game is certainly a unique experience, where any willing player opening their mind to its rich atmosphere and stand-out use of lighting, will be truly rewarded. What does a ‘fugue state’ mean after all? It means being in a sort of dream-like realm, in between being asleep and awake.
So... it’s basically a first-person exploration game with limited interaction, and no dialogue. Just you, the scene and the music. We rarely play games like this and despite its dark, impressing nature it feels in so many ways refreshing. It’s because there just aren’t enough original games like this one.
You will be drawn in to contemplate the designs, the tall concrete buildings and corridors. At first you might think there is a bug or something as in the opening scene, you’ll see a strange stardust being approached by an unsteady camera. So strange, we thought the game had frozen! But it’s all part of Moshe’s masterplan. This game is here to make you wonder about the world; its chaos.
Fugue in Void is simple in term of gameplay, but is it just really about that? The designer takes you with him in this journey of questioning. Once you've completed the game, you will question our current world and its hardship.
It’s not often that we find ourselves wanting to replay a game which has no action and no fighting as such. Yet, this game is such an experience, that you will want to play it at least a couple of times, to make sure you haven’t missed anything!
This is not an open world game. It’s almost a special kind of escape from all the action packed games we know today. In Fugue in Void the setting has some kind of end-of-the-world theme, where the mysterious game unfolds like a piece of art in itself. You'll have to experience it for yourself.
Ideally, play the game all the way through, headphones on, and in the dark, letting the artistic design lead you deeper into its film noir-like atmosphere. There is no save mode, so you will play the whole game in one go, which should take you about 45 minutes.
Forget everything you know about a first-person game and open your mind to what it presents...
